Ysgol Bro Sion Cwilt

Email Admissions

The school is situated near the village of Synod Inn, between Aberaeron and Cardigan and is maintained by Ceredigion Local Authority. This bilingual school was opened in January 2010 in response to the closure of three schools, namely Ysgol Gwenlli, Ysgol Llanllwchaearn and Ysgol y Castell, Caerwedros. Pupils are admitted to the school during the term that follows their third birthday and now there is over 120 pupils between the ages of 3 and 11 on the schools register. Welsh is the main medium of communication and learning in the school.

Our goal is to provide a supportive community in a happy, Welsh and inclusive atmosphere, where the pupils are motivated and challenged to achieve their full potential, in order to contribute positively to the school and the wider community. This is achieved by nurturing an atmosphere of respect, self-respect and love. The children, their education and welfare are a priority to the school.

We take pride in the fact that we are a friendly, happy and open school. We are very eager to work in partnership with our parents / guardians and Governing Body so that our pupils achieve their full potential. Our first aim, when a child starts at this school, will be to ensure that he/she is happy here, for we believe that a child works best in a homely, warm, exciting and happy environment. Our intention is to develop the whole child and create an environment that is safe, happy and Welsh. We aim to create an exceptional learning environment both inside and outside the classroom. Additionally, the school will be an organisation that builds on strong links with the local community and culture.

The school’s enthusiastic and experienced staff are trained specifically to teach children of primary school age. They attend appropriate training courses regularly and will be developing expertise whilst providing a broad, rich and balanced curriculum.

The school will make every effort to ensure your children’s social development by encouraging them to forge healthy and happy relationships with their peers and with adults associated with the school. At the same time, they will be taught to be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others. We will be encouraging all children to work to the best of their ability and will be supporting their endeavours to develop individual talents. Every effort will be made to ensure that children work at an appropriate level and pace to fulfil their potential. If a child needs extra assistance, it will be arranged after consultation with the parents and with their support. Children are encouraged to take pride in their achievements and to develop a high level of self-respect and self-esteem in all areas across the school.

As parents / guardians, you have a critical role to play in your child’s educational development, and you will have opportunities to discuss your child’s progress regularly with the staff and to learn how you can assist your child further. We hope that you will keep in touch with the school to be kept informed about your child’s progress and to obtain advice on how you can support him/her. If you are concerned about any aspect of your child’s development, please come and see us or contact us to arrange an appointment to discuss the matter.
