Wellington Primary School is located on Wellington Way, behind Bow Road Underground Station. The school opened in 1928, and has been redeveloped to improve our learning spaces and create an environment fit for learning in the 21st century. We currently have 400 pupils on roll, aged between 3 years and 11 years.
Wellington is a successful, happy and forward-thinking school. We pride ourselves on our rich and varied curriculum, and the wider opportunities our children have. They tell us they love their learning and enjoy coming to school. In recent years we've had lots of building work going on as we've grown to a two-form entry school. Our learning environments are bright and well-cared for, with facilities which support all our children.
Aims
We are very lucky at Wellington that everyone is so well behaved, and we want to reward our children for their excellent behaviour. We want to celebrate good behaviour by having Golden Time for every class, every week. Children who follow all the Golden Rules can look forward to a special time in their classroom at the end of the week, where they can choose to take part in different fun activities. However, children who break the Golden Rules will lose some of their Golden Time and may spend time in another classroom. The rules are displayed around school and in every classroom. Our rules have been discussed in assembly and in class.
We aim to make our curriculum meaningful and purposeful to our children. Our thematic curriculum is organised into different topics, each covering one of our school values. Each class explored the meaning of unity in different ways, to understand how important unity is for creating a happy and caring community at our school.
A wide range of learning and activities took place. As October is also Black History Month, some classes studied the accomplishments of black artists, mathematicians, scientist and writers. Other classes learned more about each other by creating memory postcards or writing about their classmates. All children developed their teamwork skills and demonstrated respect of others.
