VFA High School has been established as a bridge between our students’ education in their home countries and their further education in Canada. We prepare students academically and culturally for success in this country. Since 1989, we have welcomed students from Austria, Canada, China, Colombia, France, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam and Venezuela. Over the years, we have watched proudly as our graduates have gone on to success in the Post-Secondary system in Canada and around the world.

Caring for Each Individual
In our small classes, teachers give the students the individual attention necessary to help them fully understand content material in a second language. With an emphasis on language skills and personal study techniques, we produce competent and independent students.

VFA offers a wonderful educational experience. Along with classroom instruction that demands the best from students, there are many field trips and extracurricular activities that encourage participation in Canadian society.

VFA High School is located in a quiet residential neighbourhood of Vancouver.  This residential environment is very suitable for international students. For example, many of our homestay families live within easy walking distance of the school. Next to the school is a large, grassy park containing a baseball diamond, soccer field and playground, offering young people a variety of recreational activities.

Community facilities abound near Vancouver Formosa Academy, including a public library, community centre, indoor swimming pool and ice arena. These facilities give students a variety of healthy options during both school and individual activities.

Conveniently close to major bus routes and rapid transit, the school is easily accessed from all parts of Vancouver. Downtown Vancouver and Vancouver International Airport are both less than a 20 minute drive away.

With a population of about two million, it is a lively city with a cosmopolitan atmosphere and international flavour.  This exciting Pacific-Rim city offers all modern conveniences, excellent shopping and a wide variety of year-round cultural events.

Surrounded by mountains and the ocean, its spectacular natural environment offers Vancouverites a wide range of activities, such as skiing, snowboarding, skating, hiking, biking, golfing, tennis and swimming. The city prides itself on its variety of large, beautiful parks and excellent recreational facilities. Of course, Vancouver was the home of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Vancouver is also the home of the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University, both world famous institutions offering a variety of high quality, exciting educational programs.

Our well-equipped school contains a variety of facilities required to offer an outstanding, well-rounded educational program.The two level school building includes bright classrooms, two computer labs, gymnasium, and library. Microwave ovens, vending machines and telephone are available for student use. Next to the school is a large city park containing a soccer field, baseball diamond and running track.

Within close walking distance of the school are a public library, community center, ice skating rink and indoor swimming pool.
