STEM SSI Participant

Congratulations, Noor Al-Shakarchi, selected to participate in this year’s STEM SSI from 20th June to 1st August 2021.

The Summer STEM Institute (SSI), which aims to make research and mentorship accessible to high school students, was initially started by a team of graduates, students, and educators from Stanford, Harvard, MIT, and other leading universities.

The program has received over 1,250 applications, and according to the admissions committee, Noor’s academic record, extracurricular activities, and personal statements stood out amongst a highly competitive applicant’s pool. Furthermore, the admissions committee enjoyed reading about her aspirations to work in a physics-related field and her interests in quantum computing.

Commenting on her achievement Noor had this to say,

“I’m so happy and grateful that I was accepted into this program. I’m even more grateful for the people who helped me achieve; first of all my parents, who are forever supportive of my dreams, and who I owe everything to. To all my teachers, who worked so hard through this pandemic to teach us, especially through distance learning. When I was filling out the application form for this program, I wrote with the passion I saw in my teachers when they taught their subjects. I want to thank Mr Swartz, who introduced the wonderful field of physics so enjoyably and inspired me to learn so much more about it, and Miss Nabila, who supported me and went out of her way to help me with anything I needed, and who proved to be a truly amazing and brilliant mathematics teacher this year. I really can’t thank these incredible teachers enough”!
