In relationship with St Margaret’s Church, The Diocese of Manchester and the wider community, the school takes care to thoughtfully nurture the promotion of spiritual values that reflect its richer culture, secular and religious intake. In practice, this means that everyone is given equality of opportunity, irrespective of race, culture, religion, gender class or ability.
Such an approach maximises and develops the strength of its Church of England foundation, namely to grow as an inclusive school community, where spiritual values of caring and respecting and achieving are promoted.
The nursery is able to accommodate 60 children in full time places. Names for places are taken after a child’s second birthday. Children are admitted in the September after their third birthday. The criteria for allocating places are the same as the Local Authority (LA) for reception places. The standard intake number for the school is 90.Children are admitted into the Reception class via a single intake in September. Children whose fifth birthday falls between September 1st and the end of August commence in September.
It is essential that parents/carers complete the admission pack for a school place when received from the LA and return it to the LA by the date stated. This form must be completed and returned even if the child is a sibling and even if the child is already in our nursery.
St. Margaret’s CE Primary School aims to create and maintain a safe learning environment where all children and adults feel safe, secure and valued and know they will be listened to and taken seriously. Our school is committed to the principles outlined in ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children 2015’ and implements policies, practices and procedures which promote safeguarding and the emotional and physical well being of children, young people and staff. The school is committed to supporting the delivery of effective early help using The Multi- Agency Levels of Need and Response Framework . The children have access to appropriate curriculum opportunities, including emotional health and well being, to support the development of the skills needed to help them stay safe and healthy, develop their self-esteem and understand the responsibilities of adult life, particularly in regard to child care and parenting skills. Access to cross-curricular activities will provide opportunities to develop self-esteem and self-motivation and to help pupils respect the rights of other individuals and potentially vulnerable groups.
All children have access to an appropriate curriculum, differentiated to meet their needs. This enables them to learn to develop the necessary skills to build self-esteem, respect others, defend those in need, resolve conflict without resorting to violence, question and challenge and to make informed choices in later life.
All the children currently on the SEND register are under the provision of SEN Support. This means that they have been identified as having additional needs. All teachers are responsible for every child in their care, including those with special educational needs. At St. Margaret’s CE Primary we have internal processes for monitoring quality of provision and assessment of children’s needs. Where necessary we seek additional support from external agencies.
The identification of SEN is built into the overall approach to monitoring the progress and development of all pupils. Where a pupil continues to make less than expected progress, despite evidence based support and interventions that are matched to the pupil’s area of need, the school considers involving specialists. We may involve specialists at any point to advise us on early identification of SEN and effective support and interventions.
Class teachers identify emerging difficulties and respond early. We also listen to and address any concerns raised by children themselves. Where appropriate a child should always be involved in the review of their Individual Education Plan.
At St Margaret’s CE Primary School we appreciate that the society within which we live is diverse and, therefore, we aim for our curriculum and life within school to reflect this. Throughout day to day school life, we try to make links to the social, cultural, moral and spiritual values as they arise and in so doing we hope to enable our children to develop a greater tolerance and understanding of the World. As you are probably aware for the last few years the government has allocated additional funds to schools to support the education of children in care (CiC) and on free school meals (FSM). Their reason for this is these children tend to do less well at school, be less likely to go on to higher education and are more likely to be unemployed as adults. While we know that this will definitely not be the case for all children on free school meals or in care, it is good that the government recognises that children facing these circumstances can sometimes face greater challenges. At St Margaret's we want all of our children to 'Aspire and Achieve' and we work really hard to help every child have high aspirations for what they can achieve and high hopes for their future.
