Oakwood School will provide the opportunity for students to complete primary and secondary schooling and gain recognised certificate qualifications, flowing through to the areas of business activity, family and community life. The emphasis at the school will to be develop the essential principle of ‘Learning to Learn’.

Mission StatementOakwood is a School where students are encouraged to develop their full potential and acquire the discipline of learning how to learn, while maintaining fundamental Christian teachings and beliefs.The School will maintain government registration, provide operational guidelines, establish curriculum and resources, provide expert teaching / learning opportunities, and assist our professional staff meet special needs and use all available resources effectively.This mission will ensure that the School’s clearly defined goals are realised.

This School is a registered and accredited non-goverment multi-campus School established to provide a quality education to the community and, in particular, to Brethren students. The school provides a vibrant and stimulating learning environment where students feel safe and secure and students are recognised as maturing into young men and women able to make sincere judgments about the world around them, and their place in it.

The School’s Ethos, Values Statement and Guiding Principles govern the School, and are reflected in a series of policies, procedures and handbooks which have been developed to meet statutory and registration requirements and are to be adhered to in all aspects of the operation of the School and its Campuses. At this School, students are encouraged to develop their full potential and acquire the discipline of learning how to learn, while upholding Christian teachings and beliefs.

The truth and authority of the Holy Bible and strong family values underpin the commitment of the School to provide quality in every facet of education - curriculum, teachers, facilities, management and discipline - in a safe and caring environment. In coming to this School each student, parent and staff member shall uphold the values of the School which include:

The School is committed to creating and delivering learning programs that meet the educational needs of each student, and to nurture the attitudes and skills necessary for the continual learning and personal growth throughout life. “Learning to Learn” means to use learning as a tool whereby students are equipped with the ability to think critically, process information perceptually, analyse data accurately, and evaluate situations intelligently in order that they fulfil their true potential.

During the early 1990s a number of Christian parents worked together to develop approved educational facilities that catered for students from Years 7 to 12. The School was first registered in 1995 under the control of the Oakwood Education Trust in Hobart. In 1998, the campus in Launceston was established and the Devonport campus in 2000.

Although a relatively young school, Oakwood has shown the determination and ability to be progressive and innovative with the capacity to adjust quickly to the changes in education.  This progress has continued with the School having extended learning programs to include the Primary Years 3 to 6.From the School’s beginnings to today, dedication to the principle of ‘Learning to Learn’ continues as our motto.We are equipping our students with the ability to think critically, process information perceptively, analyse data accurately and evaluate situations intelligently as part of their education and fulfilment of their potential.
