New Zealand School Jakarta (NZSJ), previously the New Zealand Independent School (NZIS), has a long and proud history of serving the Jakarta community and delivering exemplary outcomes for all our learners. Our School was founded in 2002 with the aim of bringing the well-rounded and progressive New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) to young learners of all nationalities living in Jakarta, Indonesia. In 2019, the School completed the Government of Indonesia Ministry of Education accreditation program, scoring 93% for our Primary School and 91% for our Secondary School.
Our goal is to provide an exceptional education for all our children as well as the support, challenges and experiences they need to grow into happy and resilient lifelong learners.
First and foremost, we serve our students. They are the ones for whom we are here. This means that we are always in service to the best interests and physical, mental and social wellbeing of the child.
We recognize that serving our students and nurturing children ‘takes a village’. For this reason, we partner with the ‘whãnau’, a Maori term for extended family or community. In practice, this means working closely with parents, guardians and families as the main asset in their children’s lives.
At NZSJ, we believe that an effective education doesn’t just come from memorizing or lecturing. Active participation in the learning process entails analyzing, discussing and collaborating - in order to comprehend and retain. All of our teaching is designed to encourage deep mental processing and student engagement with the class material.
NZSJ is a unique educational facility that offers a nurturing environment for our students to explore and investigate the world around them within a safe and familiar ‘small-school’ setting. Our school implements the New Zealand Te Whaariki curriculum in our Early Years (pre-school and kindergarten) and the New Zealand Curriculum in our Primary and Secondary School.

My son has attended the NZIS for 6 months and we have been very happy with the care, attention, communication and cost benefits. He attends the toddler group class daily and I receive constant updates via WhatsApp about learning activities, school happenings and feel very engaged in his education and care outside the home. Also, the school is conveniently located off Kemang Raya and just down the street from Kemang Villas.
