Boarding life

Today there are enormous demands on working parents and families. Wrap-around care is essential for all parents and boarding at Warminster School delivers a simple solution in a wonderful location.

We strongly believe in the value of our boarding offering and what it can provide for your child. To meet the demands of busy family life, we offer both full and flexible boarding.

Flexible boarding allows children to enjoy the benefits of boarding and yet be able to spend quality time with their families at weekends. The entire family benefits from less travelling during the week and escape the pressures of ‘fitting it all in’. Children enjoy a week of learning, after-school clubs, sport and the relaxed friendly atmosphere of the boarding house in the evenings. Warminster's boarding houses have their own unique personality and pupils enjoy a sense of belonging and loyalty.

Flexibility is key to supporting our families and pupils. Pupils are welcome to board 1, 2 or 3 nights a week too. This helps enormously with early matches at weekends and to break up a week of bus journeys to school.

Each house has a Housemaster or Housemistress (HM) who works closely with the House Matron. Along with Assistant HMs, these staff are key to the development, support and guidance of the pupils in their care. The HMs and their families help to foster a sense of the warmth and familiar routines of family life. Our aim is to create a caring atmosphere in which our boarding children feel happy, secure and comfortable. We offer every boarder a true ‘home from home’ under the watchful eye and guidance of their HM.

Throughout the academic year and over each weekend we run activities and trips aimed at enriching the pupils’ lives and their boarding experience. A sense of belonging is important in helping children develop friendships and positive relationships. Our key aim is to help our young people become confident, well-rounded individuals who have the ability to make the very best of the opportunities that life offers.

Flexi-boarding

We understand the importance of maintaining a flexible approach to boarding.

Flexi-boarding enables a pupil to board part-time – either on a weekly regular basis or just occasionally. The latter comes in especially useful when a pupil is involved in an activity which involves an early start or evening rehearsal.

We are happy to care for pupils, subject to availability, allowing them to stay overnight on an agreed number of days each week. Parents and pupils find this useful and often flexi-boarders will go on to become full timers having enjoyed the experience. Some pupils find flexi-boarding especially helpful in the build-up to exams when the structured evenings and supported aspects of boarding give relief at a stressful time.

To organise flexi-boarding for your son or daughter please complete the relevant boarding house flexi-boarding request form.

Please note:

  • Flexi-boarding is available for a maximum of 3 nights per week;
  • Flexi-boarding is not a guarantee of a bed space and is subject to availability in the boarding house which may change at any point during the year;
  • If space is at a premium, a full time boarder takes priority.

Flexi-boarding is usually in demand and we operate waitlists for certain houses. We will endeavour to do our best to assist families with ad-hoc boarding when necessary, but this isn’t always feasible/possible.
