11+ Entry

At Queen Anne’s School, we traditionally look at girls entering at 11+ and 13+. We promote individuality in our girls and therefore, assess each girl on an individual basis. We always seek to reward what has been done well.

Assessment Day
Our 11+ assessment day takes place in October, prior to Common Entrance in January. Girls will sit a written English paper as well as completing online mathematics, verbal and non-verbal reasoning tests and also take part in a group interview. Non-assessed workshops also take place during the day to enable girls to get to know one another and experience the breadth of life at Queen Anne’s. In order to take part in our assessment day, girls are required to be registered with our admissions team. A reserved place may be offered as a result of your daughter’s performance on the day.

Common Entrance
All girls must sit the 11+ Common Entrance examinations, which take place in the January of the year of entry. The Common Entrance examinations assess girls who transfer to senior schools at the ages of 11+. The syllabuses are devised and regularly monitored by the Independent Schools’ Examination Board (ISEB) composed of representatives of the Headmasters’ Conference (HMC), the Girls’ Schools Association (GSA) and the Incorporated Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS).

The papers are set by examiners appointed by the board, but the answers are marked by the senior school for which a candidate is entered.

Preparatory school pupils will receive advice from their Headteacher about Common Entrance procedures. If your daughter does not attend a school that enters girls for Common Entrance, visit the ISEB website, directly to register your daughter. The closing date for registering with the ISEB is 1 December of the year prior to entry. For any enquiries, please emailLate entrants may incur additional costs. . 16+ Entry

The application process for the sixth form takes place during the autumn term prior to the year of entry. You are very welcome to join our U5 to L6 transition days and if you would like to experience boarding life at Queen Anne’s, this can be arranged through the admissions team.

The requirement for entry to the sixth form is a minimum of six 9-6 grades or equivalent grades at GCSE (including English Language and mathematics) and 9-6 grades in the subjects to be studied for A Level, together with a satisfactory reference from your daughter’s current school. Entrance examinations take place in November prior to the year of entry for the sixth form. Papers are set in English and mathematics and those applying for a scholarship sit a scholars’ essay paper.

International Students

We warmly welcome pupils from overseas to become part of our excellent boarding community.

The warm and friendly atmosphere makes it easy for pupils to settle in to the school and make long lasting friendships, while the group system creates a homely, safe and secure environment.

The school is conveniently located for International Boarding parents, just outside Reading and a short distance from exceptional transport links. London Heathrow Airport is just 40 minutes away by car and London Paddington can be reached by train in just 26 minutes.

International Admissions Process
If a pupil is not based in the UK or not a UK national, our admissions team can arrange for examinations to take place in her current school or at the British Council. In addition to taking the entrance examinations, a Skype interview with the Head of EAL (English as an additional language) can be organised. For students looking to join the Sixth Form, Heads of the Departments of the subjects considered for study at A Level will also join the interview.

For most students who can come to visit, we can arrange for them to sit their entrance exams and have their EAL interviews during their visit. In addition to our own entrance exams, Queen Anne’s welcomes UKiset profiles from international students. UKiset is a global test designed to provide schools with credible information on an applicant’s academic potential as part of their application process. The test includes assessments of academic potential and English language skills.

The Uk Points Based Immigration System
The school will make all reasonable efforts to assist students and parents to comply with the UK Government’s requirements on visa entry for girls who wish to come to the UK to study.

Short Stay Enrichment Programme
Our Enrichment Programme allows students to experience the academic and co-curricular opportunities offered to our Lower Sixth girls for a short time when they are in Year 11, prior to proceeding to study A Levels. By providing specialist teaching with modern facilities and working with students in small groups, our short stay L6 girls will be fully integrated into Queen Anne’s School life providing a perfect preparation for Sixth Form study. Contact the Admission Team to find out more.
