Appeal Information
Appeals for St John Bosco Arts College are handled by the Education Department of the Archdiocese of Liverpool and not Liverpool City Council. To lodge an appeal you must submit your details
Appeals for normal year of entry, i.e. Year 7, are arranged each year generally according to the following timetable. The dates may vary depending on whether the offer date falls on a weekend and may also differ slightly from those given by the Local Authority:
- Secondary offer date: 1 March
- Appeals to be lodged by: 30 March
- Appeals to be heard: 18 June or as soon thereafter
The aim is to hold all appeal hearings within 40 school days after the deadline. In some exceptional circumstances we may need to hold hearings after this date. Appellants will be given 14 days’ notice of an appeal hearing date and time.
Appeals will be heard as soon as reasonably practicable following the appeal deadline.
In-year appeals: Appeals resulting from in-year admission applications will be heard on a date to be arranged within 30 school days of the appeal form being received by the Education Department at the Archdiocese or presently as soon as thereafter given the implications of the COVID-19 public health challenge.

Applying for secondary schools
You can express a preference for up to five schools in Liverpool or other local authority areas when you apply online. There are different types of secondary schools in Liverpool which have different admission arrangements:
- Community schools follow the council's admission policy.
- Academies, Foundation, Trust and Voluntary Aided schools follow the admission policy determined by the governing body.
- Some schools require parents to complete a supplementary school application form as well as the local authority's online preference form. The supplementary application form is used by the governors when they are deciding which children to admit. The local authority's preference form is used as part of the coordinated admissions procedure.
