Choosing a school for your son is a really exciting time but it can also be a little daunting. The Admissions section of our website offers you a wealth of practical information about how to join the School; from key dates and timelines, to details about our entrance exam and interviews, and how to apply for assistance with fees.
We hope that our website and videos provide you with an insight into Hampton life but we warmly invite you to come and visit us to meet our boys and teachers and get a true sense of what makes Hampton such a wonderful place to come to school.

Admissions Process
There are three main points of entry to Hampton School
- 11+ (into our First Year/Year 7)
- 13+ (into our Third Year/Year 9)
- 16+ (into the Sixth Form)
Please note that boys may only sit for 11+ or 13+ entry and not both. Click on the tabs below for further information.
10+ Exam
Boys in Year 5 have the opportunity to sit our 10+ Advance Place examination for deferred entry to the First Year (Year 7) at 11+. Around 35 places are offered each year. The 10+ exam is held at Hampton at the beginning of November in Year 5 and assists parents who feel their son is ready to sit a formal exam and who wish to reduce the complexities and uncertainties of the 11+ assessments in Year 6.

11+ Entry
Boys join our First Year (Year 7) from a wide variety of different schools and backgrounds. Entry is via competitive exam, interview and school reference and we typically welcome 140 new Hamptonians to our First Year each September. Candidates applying for entry to our First Year (Year 7) usually sit our 11+ Entrance Exam when they are in Year 6.

13+ Entry
We are delighted to have a large number of boys join our Third Year each year from independent prep schools that finish at the end of Year 8.
The admissions process begins in Year 6 and entry is via our own 13+ Pre-test, interview and school reference. Candidates who are not successful in the Year 6 Pre-test may sit the Year 7 Pre-test completely afresh in Year 7. Our Year 7 Pre-test assessments are also open to boys who have not sat before.

16+ Entry
Hampton Sixth Form is full of new experiences and opportunities and a great place to continue your studies.
Our Sixth Form pupils enjoy a balanced education in a challenging yet caring environment underpinned by a strong support network. There is a strong academic focus and we are proud of our results which open doors to the top global universities, as well as an exciting range of career opportunities.
We are not, however, just about exam results. With increasingly fierce competition for top university places and jobs, your personal development and experiences outside the classroom are just as important as your grades. You will be encouraged to broaden your interests, take on leadership roles and get involved in our extensive co-curricular programme.
Successful candidates will be offered a place conditional on specified grades at I/GCSE, typically a minimum of six I/GCSEs at grade 8-9. Sporting, creative and other talents are also important as they form an integral part of the Sixth Form programme.
