Welcome to the website of Kingsmead Primary School in Hackney. We are proud of our school and especially our wider community and have grown together to provide an amazing curriculum and offer to all Kingsmead children. Kingsmead was designated as a National Teaching School graded Outstanding by OFSTED who said ‘The rich, stimulating curriculum in the hands of skilled teachers inspires pupils’ learning and makes a significant contribution to their outstanding personal development.’
We formed the LEAP federation with our partner schools Gayhurst Community School and Mandeville Primary school - we have one governing body and one Executive Head who lead all three schools. Kingsmead also leads the Hackney Teaching Schools' Alliance which is an alliance of 15 other mixed phase schools in Hackney. This means we can continue to learn from and share best practice with our wider community whilst ensuring the children, staff and parents get the best quality education we can give them. Kingsmead values its dedicated staff & children and ensures that the children achieve to the best of their ability and have high aspirations for their futures. The website is here to demonstrate how that looks in practice.
Behaviour policy, Safeguarding policy, Child Protection procedures, Special Educational Needs Disability policy. The Kingsmead Equality Action Plan (appendix two) can be found as a PDF visit website. At Kingsmead we take pride in the high standards of good behaviour that our children exhibit in class and around the school. We believe that good behaviour and respect for each other and our surroundings ensure a calm and productive atmosphere in which to learn. In order to achieve this the School Rules are displayed in all classrooms and communal areas and the school operates a system called "Stay on Green". This system ensures that children are rewarded for good behaviour and that they clearly understand the consequences of negative behaviour.
Positive behaviours are modelled, explained, taught, supported and reinforced. Staff focus on positive actions (for example ‘I like the way you are walking sensibly’) rather than what children should not do (for example ‘do not run’). The same management techniques are used by all staff so that there is consistency and fairness in all areas of school life. Rewards for good behaviour and attitude to learning are many and varied. They begin with praise and are reinforced with stickers, certificates, postcards home, phone calls from the teacher and whole school recognition in the form of a golden award and golden time at the end of the week. Golden time is a fun time when children get to play games in their classroom or outside in the playground. Golden awards are given every Friday in assembly, the child receives a certificate, and a medal to take home and celebrate with their family. Individual teachers operate whole class reward systems, where classes fill a button jar or achieve a specific target and these are rewarded with a treat chosen by the class.
