‘A great school should be more concerned with the building of character than with the attainment of academic excellence...Every child is capable of doing something well and has something to contribute. This must be encouraged and developed to the utmost. Since the School’s creation in 1915, we have grown from twelve students in a Parish Hall to the leading multi-campus school we are today. While the core principles laid down by our founder remain the same, our school has seen a great deal of change. With campuses in Ivanhoe and Doreen, families in Melbourne’s North have access to the leading educational outcomes that Ivanhoe provides.

Rich in history, yet thoroughly vibrant, diverse and innovative, Ivanhoe Grammar School provides a wonderful environment for students and has a long history of providing excellent educational outcomes. International in outlook with a wide range of co-curricular choices, Ivanhoe encourages students to discover and develop their strengths, no matter where their interests lie. Vibrant programs in areas such as performing and visual arts, music, sport, adventure, cadets, local and international service and leadership help students to develop their unique range of talents and gain an awareness and a sense responsibility about their world.

Our focus on student wellbeing and a shared set of values means students feel safe, valued and well cared for throughout their school years and beyond, with the Old Ivanhoe Grammarians network providing a valuable link to their school peers even after they have left school.

Plenty Campus enjoys a vibrant community spirit with small class sizes where students from Prep through to Year 12 interact and support each other. Our students are taught in a respectful learning environment that nourishes individual strengths, builds confidence, self-esteem and character underpinned by the principles of positive education.

Our co-educational program has a combination of rigorous academic endeavour and co-curricular challenges that encourage students to become life-long learners. Beginning in the primary years, students are given a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy which is invaluable for their further education and life. Primary students enjoy a wide range of specialist subjects including Science, French, Chinese (from grade 5), Art, Physical Education, Music, Instrumental Programs and Library, all with their own specialist teachers and facilities.

Set in stunning surrounds, the Campus has state-of-the-art facilities including a new Science and Senior Years Centre, a Creative Arts Centre, Food Technology Centre, Primary and Secondary Libraries, Drama and Dance Studio, Gymnasium, Equestrian Centre and excellent sporting facilities.  We provide the best possible facilities and advanced information technology to enhance our students' learning and experiences.  Individual talents and achievements of students from Prep to Year 12 are celebrated at Plenty Campus.

In the Primary Years, our program has a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy with specialist subject areas enhancing the curriculum. Individual student programs are available to cater for students who require support or enrichment. The Secondary curriculum provides students with every opportunity to grow through a diverse and exciting range of opportunities, with small class sizes ensuring all students are known personally and encouraged to achieve their best.

We provide an innovative and quality educational program for primary students in a co-educational setting from Prep to Year 6. The diverse range of backgrounds, experiences, interests, learning styles and social and academic competencies that comprise our student population makes our school a rich and varied place of learning. We aim to cater through our strong classroom curriculum programs, supplemented by our individual student programs, for the competencies of each student, whilst upholding the special traditions and values of an Ivanhoe Grammar School education.

From Prep through to Year 6, teachers at both Primary Campuses of Ivanhoe Grammar School work together to develop a creative, cohesive and sequential program that reflects current research of an understanding of how children best learn. Our teachers have strong professional knowledge with classroom programs differentiated to cater for individual needs. Students enjoy the challenge of learning and love to learn. There is a strong emphasis on the teaching and learning of literacy and numeracy. Core Subjects include: English – Oral Language, Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Handwriting Mathematics – Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, Statistics and Probability.

As students enter the Senior Years they are able to select a course of study, which not only caters for their interests, but is also consistent with their abilities. This three-year Senior Years Program allows students to tailor their subjects to meet their needs for current learning and future pathways. Year 10 provides a smooth transition into the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).

In Year 10 all students study a core program of: English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities: Australian and Global Perspectives, Physical Education and Life Matters. In Humanities the subject of Australian and Global Perspectives includes the study of VCE Global Politics Unit 2. In addition, two electives are studied for the year. Students may select from Year 10 electives or from a host of VCE Units 1/2 studies.

For students who choose to follow the VCE path, they complete the Certificate across three years. Individual student programs are designed to meet student needs and abilities. It is possible for Year 11 students to study up to two Unit 3/4 subjects and some Year 12 students take the option of studying a University extension subject.
