Model Engineering College was established in 1989 by the Institute of Human Resource Development to provide quality engineering education in the industrial centre of Kerala. It was established as a self-financing college with a fair degree of autonomy. The college started functioning in August 1989 in the premises of High School, Edapally with three degree courses offered in Biomedical, Computer and Electronics Engineering. Prof. Sukulal was the first principal of the institute. The college was shifted to the present campus at Thrikkakara in September 1994 and has grown into an institution of excellence. The design of the main building was inspired from India's first satellite, the Aryabhatta.
On its inception, Model Engineering College was the first self-financing college under the Government of Kerala and was the first college affiliated to CUSAT. Currently, MEC is one of the most sought after Engineering colleges in Kerala. Our fame has spread throughout the country and students from different parts of the country have MEC as their preferred choice of college. The college has been consistently ranked at the very top in various surveys of Private and Government Engineering colleges in Kerala, the MINT and Outlook rankings being afew of them.
For the past 28 years Govt. Model Engineering College has empowered its students to pave the way for excellence and innovation in the field of engineering and technology. The institute is affiliated to the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU), and was the first self-financing college to be established by the Government of Kerala under the aegis of the institute of Human Resource Development (IHRD). The college was previously affiliated to Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) and has witnessed record breaking placements year after year. MEC was featured 37 among the top 100 engineering colleges in India by Outlook magazine and 21 among the top 25 Govt. Engineering colleges in India by DataQuest.
Our students have consistently proven their mettle in varied areas and have won accolades from different quarters of the society. The passion for knowledge among students has resulted in the evolution of the college from a small unit into a prestigious institution with more than 100 faculties, 1500 students and 50 supporting staff.
The college offers four undergraduate courses in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electronics & Biomedical Engineering and Electrical & Electronics Engineering and five postgraduate courses, namely VLSI Design & Embedded systems, Image Processing, Signal Processing, Optoelectronics & Communication Systems, and Energy Management. Unique in its structure, methods and goals, the college is strongly rooted in a philosophy of training and research that emphasizes the intimate relationships between knowledge and its application and seeks to promote the creation of an ideal society.

Attending MEC was the best decision of my life. There are thousands of alumni who would attest the impact this 14 or so acres of land have made in their life. The experience is truly beyond words. Easily the best place to do engineering in Kerala.

One of the best engineering college in south India....Good in placement statistics... NVIDIA , National Instruments , Amazon,Myntra,Cypress semiconductors,FACTSET are some of the top companies visiting MEC....The most beautiful part of MEC is not only in placements but in the vibrancy of its students.....It also hosts one of the best Techfest in kerala ....A very good atmosphere for those who want to go to the next level ,with more than 10 active clubs in both technical and non technical fields...MEC also holds the champion title of CUSAT arts for several years...Some years ago I selected this college for my B.tech based on these google reviews...Now I am writing this review to those who want admission in MEC and I am confident about saying "PROUD TO BE AN MECian".

One of the best engineering colleges in Ernakulam. As a student of this college i can verify that the environment is very nice. This is the host of the famous tech fest EXCEL and the college really lights up for it. This is the home of one of the best staffs in any engineering colleges. Even though the infrastructure is a little limited the college experience makes up for it.
