he high school programs at Coquitlam College are all about giving our students the foundational skills and knowledge they need to succeed at a university level. Coquitlam College understands that our students come from a wide variety of educational backgrounds. For exactly that reason, we offer three distinct high school programs to help you complete the courses you need to start your university studies in Canada without delay. Students are accepted into Grade 10, 11 or 12 of the Senior High School Program based on an evaluation of the official transcripts from their previous school, as well as their English language fluency.
The Dogwood Diploma program allows students to complete their high school requirements with a smaller, more personalized class size. Our course curriculum has the same credential that is offered by the British Columbia Public School System. Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive their BC Dogwood Diploma and be able to enter first year at universities in Canada and the United States. For international students looking to enter high school, many overseas courses will transfer into this program and count towards graduation requirements. Students must complete a minimum 80 credits (20 courses) to graduate from this program.
Students who are 18 years of age or older may complete their high school requirements in the BC Adult Graduation Diploma (BCAGD). The Adult Graduation Diploma (formerly the ABE Provincial Diploma and Adult Dogwood) allows students, as adult learners, to return to and complete the BC Ministry of Education secondary school requirements. This enables students to graduate from Grade 12 in preparation for entry into the workforce, a vocational program or post-secondary studies.
This program is for highly motivated and capable students under the age of 19 who want to begin their university transfer studies as soon as possible. Students in the Advanced Program must complete four high school courses including English Studies 12 and write the corresponding graduation assessment. After meeting all requirements, they may then begin university transfer courses at the College. Upon completion of at least 30 university course credits at Coquitlam College, students are then eligible to enter a university at the second-year level.
The English Certificate Program is for all students who need to improve their English language skills. The program is designed to prepare students for academic success in college and university and to provide them the skills to communicate within English environments. Many international students first enter the English Certificate Program before going on to the High School or University Transfer Program.
Courses offered range in levels from beginner to university preparation. Students are required to take writing and reading in each level. At the Intermediate and Advanced levels, students have four electives from which they can choose two. These electives integrate all four skills (writing, reading, listening, and speaking) and focus on specific topics to allow students to use the skills they are learning.
