Established in 2010, CCQ has grown to become one of the nation’s leading education establishments contributing to the development of qualified national cadres and the reinforcement of the competitive capacities of public institutions, with a variety of specialized academic and training programs aiming at meeting the increasing and evolving needs of the Qatari labor market.
At CCQ, we are proud of the contribution we make to the career development of thousands of highly qualified professionals. At the same time, we are always looking to the future, and examining new ways to support the nation’s priorities. CCQ has made significant progress towards offering more diverse and specialized academic programs. In addition, we have sought to attract the most qualified and experienced academic and administrative staff to join CCQ across various departments and sectors at our multiple campuses.
As part of a substantial national investment in human development and in partial fulfillment of the educational goals articulated in the Qatar National Vision 2030, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in the State of Qatar established the Community College of Qatar (CCQ). The purpose of CCQ is to provide a diverse range of educational opportunities which include: 2-year academic programs that prepare students for transfer to four-year universities, 2 + 2 academic programs as well as 2-year career oriented programs to meet the country’s critical workforce and labor needs.
The Community College of Qatar, in collaboration with Houston Community College, opened its doors for the first time in September 2010 with an enrollment of 308 full-time students at the West Bay Campus. Ever since the college has seen an increase in enrollment every semester. Today, CCQ is the fastest growing institution in Qatar with an enrollment of 5000 students at five different campuses.
The college offers a number of associate and bachelor degree programs that meet the needs of the labor force in Qatar. Among them are two-year Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degree programs for students wishing to transfer to four-year universities, high demand 2+2 associate and bachelor's degree programs and two-year Associate of Applied Arts and Applied Science degree programs. CCQ also offers short-term continuing education and marketable skills certificates for those who wish to upgrade their knowledge and skills to become more marketable in the job market. In addition, CCQ has partnered with a number of local and international four-year universities in order to provide students with the opportunity to seamlessly transfer to a university to obtain a bachelor's degree without losing the validation for any of their coursework.
The Community College of Qatar goal is to offer a wide-range of educational opportunities for students, including: academic courses for those seeking academic degrees and/or intending to transfer to other colleges and universities; career and technology (workforce) programs designed for students seeking specialized degrees and/or specific skills to enter the workforce; developmental and adult education, for students who wish to improve basic competencies and as a first step to entry to other programs; distance education, for students seeking an education and attempting to balance work and family while doing so; and the corporate college, providing customized training to meet the education and technical skill needs of business, non-profits, and governmental entities.
CCQ currently offers college-level freshman and sophomore academic courses leading to two-year Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Science (AS) and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees. All academic courses and degrees are designed to transfer to baccalaureate programs in four-year colleges and universities.
As a result of a our partnership with the Houston Community College in Texas, CCQ academic courses transfer by law to all Texas public universities and by agreement to most Texas private universities.
The Associate in Arts and Associate in Science associate academic degrees provide students with a solid learning foundation through a traditional liberal arts education. Courses are offered in the broad areas of fine arts/humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics and natural sciences. The liberal arts help students develop critical and analytical skills demanded by our constantly changing physical and social environments. The associate of applied science degree provides more specialized education for students seeking employment in job fields where applied knowledge and specific skills are required.
