Saint-Charles offers a complete curriculum for students aged between 8 and 20. We do everything possible to ensure that from primary level right through to the Maturité, students can learn at their own pace and find their way successfully. Our commitment to the youngsters in our care and their parents is based on high-quality teaching, the skills and dedication of our staff and personal monitoring of students - founded on the concepts of care and attentive listening.
Founded in 1897, the Collège & Lycée Saint-Charles is located in outstanding settings in Ajoie, in the Swiss Jura Canton. The school, which welcomes young people aged between 10 and 20, stands on the edge of the Allaine, in a tree-lined garden at the foot of the magnificent Château de Porrentruy. Nicknamed the Athens of the Jura, this little town with nearly 7,000 inhabitants is known for its long tradition of education, its openness to the wider world and its vocation of stimulating the thirst for knowledge.
The campus consists of the main building (the former residence of the canons), a school building, a beautiful chapel and the Léon Burrus sports complex. The classrooms, bathed in natural light and enjoying a clear view over the surrounding nature, are an invitation to share knowledge with a critical and curious outlook. During their studies, the 250 students benefit from high-quality teaching, offering them the necessary tools to pursue and forge their pathways in a complex and demanding world.
At the College & Lycée Saint-Charles, the teaching for these activities, experiments and research tasks is provided in German or English. The motto of explore-it at the Collège is: Explore! Invent! Collaborate! In German and English.
Teachers and students form a coherent whole. Under the banner of Supporting Growth, Saint-Charles does everything possible to make future young adults into citizens of the world. Saint-Charles emphasizes curiosity and a sense of tolerance and freedom, and constantly seeks a balance between tradition and the avant-garde.
Mission
Our mission is to provide students with a high-quality education while developing the attributes of kindness, respect, and responsibility towards others and the environment.
Philosophy
Collège et Lycée Saint-Charles, follows the humanist and Christian values of caring for others and the environment, respecting cultures and individuals, and approaching the world with openness and positivity. Thus, the school aims to develop the same values in students and to support students in becoming responsible, global citizens who work to make the world a better place.
Each student has access to dedicated learning strategy classes, and our teachers are trained in the concept of the keys to learning. They are therefore able to help each student, from primary school level to high school level, to acquire the essential tools for success.
The topics include note-taking, structuring knowledge, memorisation, drawing links between different subjects, and school work organisation. Supervised Maturité coursework drafting and preparation for examinations are also some of the topics addressed, as well as more individual work strategies for specific subjects.
