Burlington Christian Academy (BCA) is located in Burlington, Ontario Canada. In 1975 the school began at Park Avenue Church in the Aldershot community of Burlington with 3 teachers and 12 students. This was the vision of Mary Sift, the wife of Pastor Sift of Park Avenue Church. In 1989, the school moved to Park Bible Church (now Compass Point Bible Church), just east of our current location on the North Service Road.
BCA has grown to become Burlington’s leading Christian Elementary school. In 2000, the school incorporated as a separate entity from Park Bible Church to form Burlington Christian Academy. On September 10, 2001, parents, students, staff, and board members proudly opened a brand new 25,000 square foot education facility on the western edge of Burlington. Over 160 students in in grades JK through 8 are able to partake in one of the most progressive educational programs in Southern Ontario.
We are a unique school in our program offerings; there is no school like BCA! Aside from the regular curriculum (we teach according to the Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum guidelines), we offer special programs including, Advanced Level Programming of Athletics (ALPA), EdVenture, Curtain Call, Lunch Box Theatre, Discovery, and Junior Programming, that add to the quality and excitement of a student’s learning experience.
The school is owned and operated by a parent sponsored board of directors and operates as an inter-denominational school. BCA students represent 19 different denominations and 23 churches from the greater Burlington area. BCA follows the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum and is a member of the Ontario Alliance of Christian Schools (OACS).
At BCA, we believe that differentiated instruction is at the very foundation to a student’s academic success. Our teachers spend time learning about each of their students. By understanding the unique learning abilities of each student, our teachers can teach and connect with each student individually. We know each student learns differently. It is important for us to have students that can’t wait to come to school. A child who wants to be at school, is ready to learn!
Our students learn the basics of math and language arts, as well as science, Bible, computers, art, music, and physical education. These subject areas provide students with a well-rounded education designed to promote the essential components of child development.
We also have a very strong focus on and commitment to experiential learning. In addition to our amazing classroom work, we introduce the students to hands on learning experiences. We believe that through “Learning by Doing”, it exposes students to experiences that will captivate their minds and help them find something to be passionate about, with a lasting impact. Our inception of “Junior Programming” in 2014 is just one example of this type of learning environment. “Junior Programming” takes place weekly for two periods in mixed grade groups for students in Grades 3-5 in the areas of the arts, athletics and healthy living, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).
The language arts curriculum, which balances literature and phonics, teaches our students to enjoy reading. Our math curriculum focuses on the mastery of math skills, understanding of important concepts, and the integration of problem solving. As we provide the academic foundation, in all areas of the curriculum we acknowledge the sovereignty of God, the Lordship of Christ, the authority of God’s Word, and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Experiential learning at BCA has opened a new world to our students. It allows students to experience life. The end result is active participation that engages higher brain function and stimulates the senses. These experiences challenge our students to gain insight and apply this new found knowledge to their personal lives and future growth as leaders within the community. Our three main programs at BCA that fully integrate this ideology in everyday practice are EdVenture, ALPA, and Curtain Call.
In the EdVenture program, no two weeks are alike. Our goal is to expose students to new learning experiences by engaging them in activities ranging from athletics to the arts, from history to science and technology. Through hands-on learning, we strive to generate a passion for education. For more detailed information about the EdVenture program.
ALPA (Advanced Level Programming in Athletics) is a program geared for students who possess a strong commitment and desire to play sports while receiving advanced level training, coaching, and mentoring in the sport of their choice. Students are exposed to an educational program that focuses on strong academics and advanced level training in athletics, health and fitness. Their timetable is well within the Ontario Ministry of Education guidelines and includes “Specific Training Sessions” and a “Healthy Active Living” component. For more detailed information on the ALPA program.
In Curtain Call, singing, acting, choreography, stage performance, costumes, and set design will be the areas of focus. Musical theatre can be one of the most enjoyable forms of expression and we intend to bring out each individual’s artistic and creative side! Talents will emerge as students learn songs and roles on stage and practice performing. For more detailed information on the Curtain Call program.
