Students of private schools in Dubai can opt for remote learning on Fridays during the holy month of Ramadan. Students with mandatory in-person examinations on Fridays are, however, exempt from this arrangement.
Additionally, schools have been urged to accommodate families for whom remote learning may not be suitable by allowing students to attend classes in person, according to directives from Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE.
On Wednesday, UAE’s Ministry of Education designated Fridays as a day for distance learning for students of public schools. It also clarified that this does not apply to students whose exam schedules have been approved for Fridays during the holy month.
The Ministry also said that parents who want their children to attend school on Fridays will have the option to send them but they will need to manage transportation of their wards.
Meanwhile, Dubai has also allowed flexible working hours and remote work for government employees during the holy month of Ramadan.
Government entities have been directed to allow employees to work in a flexible manner for three hours per day, provided they put in five and a half hours of work from Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, the employees must work for three hours to be eligible for flexible work.
The government has also announced official working hours for government employees in the UAE for Ramadan. Employees will need to work from 9am to 2.30pm between Monday and Thursday, while on Fridays, working hours have been fixed from 9am to 12pm. Employees will work 3.5 hours less from Monday to Thursday and 1.5 hours less on Fridays.
For private sector employees in the UAE, working hours have been shortened by two hours per day during the holy month.
