UAE-based Campus Educational Institute said it has resolved its dispute with the Madras University in India, enabling students to attend examinations soon.
“All students who have written the examination will get their results by August 30. Those who were unable to write the examination will be allowed to do so in November,” said Nandan Balakrishnan, who runs the Dubai-based institute that offers distance education programmes in co-ordination with various universities.
The Madras University, which has been offering courses in the UAE through its Institute of Distance Education, had withheld the results of several students and disallowed many from attending examinations following a dispute with its UAE centre.
The university’s vice-chancellor had complained that it was owed more than Rs3 million (Dh235,000) by the Campus Educational Institute.
“The payment has been made. There was a delay in payment because of certain difficulties in shifting the campus from Dubai to Ras Al Khaimah,” said Balakrishnan.
About 60 of the 100 students registered with the institute are studying courses offered by the Madras University and were not allowed to write the examinations this year.
“We will ensure that they do not lose a year. Everything will be regularised soon,” he added.
Following a complaint by the Madras University, the Indian Consulate had intervened and urged the affected students to contact the consulate.
